Last year me and my daughter would go paddle round in the canoe at Craik and fish for walleye.Talk to the guys at Pokeys and they tell me they have heard stories that craik winter killed so called the fisheries dept and they confirmed it , they just weren 't sure if it was total yet. I ve been asking around as to were a good place to go with the canoe would be and I ve been told Avonlea but i don't know anything about the place , can i get info as to were would be the best spots to go or to how deep the lake is as to whether its steep drop offs or not stuff like that

What lake are you close to long lake is starting to produce now water temp is comming up walleye are starting to bite. Chain lake are picking up and good thing alittle smaller so canoe would work well.

I have been told from the locals that craik dam has had 100% winter kill.
It is a shame cause there were some dam good fishing there in the past.

I live 20 miles from Craik it is true they got winter killed water level was low then lots of ice this winter they figure they ran out of oxygen. Long Lake still seems allright slow but starting to pick up. Hope to get out this week a couple times.

Avonlea would be a great place to go with a canoe its a smaller lake sheltered from the wind in lots of its area. they also have a very nice campground there. you can just paddle around dragging a jig or a lindy rig with a worm or a leech covering some ground and you will find fish its a great little fishery! good luck.

JK, you should check out Avonlea. They are having a fish derby this Sat and it would be great to see some people from this site there. You could PM Papa Bear for more info.

I am glad you posted this, we were going to go to Craik this year and try it. Hopefully they restock it. But for sure go to Avonlea it is a great place, I am trying to plan a trip there in Aug sometime with my nephew.

yes they are restocking it very soon. Helicopter style.
