Ya, I have one and have wondered the same thing. I'm sure an electronics tech could do it with little trouble. Just is it worth it. $100 for a camera, $100 to wire in maybe. Now you just bought another digital trail cam ready to roll.
But I'd be interested to if anyone knows....

If you buy a new trail cam get a HCO Scoutguard. I bought one 4 months ago and have had it turned on since then and just picked it up yesterday from a bear bait that it was sitting at for 2 months, its snapped like 1600 pics and the battery indicator has only gone down one bar. By far the best camera I own, and it fits in your pocket. Runs on 8AA's and takes 3 or 5 mp pics. Really good buy for $225 and comes with a 2gb card. Has all the settings you could ever want.

Not sure why it'd be $100 to wire it in. I personally don't know if it is possible to do the hack job with the old cam wiring but there are indeed all kinds of support places and people that could steer you in the right direction. It's either feasible or it isn't, the one certainty is that wiring a new cam in wouldn't cost much more than a few bucks for the board and some wires,..if the other one won't work.
