Well I may not have been the best mod/admin from what I'm hearing, and I'm NOWHERE near what I want to be as a bow hunter, but fishing......well let's say I know something about it anyway.
I fired up the auger yesterday, set up the portable in the basement, charged the Aqua-Vu and the Humminbird and quickly checked over the ice fishing rods.
Today I finished work by 2 pm and decided I would head out to Murray Lake (20 minutes away) with nothing more than the auger, rods and digital camera.
I was fishing by 3:30 pm, and it was beautiful out!

So I set out my Tip n Jig for Pike.......

.......and started "trolling" for Walleye.
I was getting hits on my jig and minnow, they were VERY light and I KNEW it was Perch or smaller Walleye, but it would have to wait.....FISH ON!

I was a little excited and set the hook too fast.....darn, it felt like a GOOD Pike!
Oh well, back to trolling.
After checking a few more holes, I finally landed my first fish, a little Pike.

Very small, but my first for the Ice Fishing season AND 2007.
I sent him back down the hole to get a little bigger......and went back to trying to finesse one of them Walleye that I knew were underneath me, lightly tapping on my minnow presentation.
I had to actually think about what I had seen on my Aqua-Vu in situations like this, where the Walleye were being fussy. I remembered that they like a long lift then a drop to the very bottom, leaving it there for 5 seconds or more than lifting it just a little and giving it a slight "jiggle"........SUCCESS, my first Walleye of 2007!!!

He wasn't very big (3/4 #), so back down the hole he went.
The next Walleye came as soon as I dropped the jig, with a fresh minnow on it, down the hole. He hit it before it reached the bottom.....he was another little guy and went back down the hole as well, but I was onto something!

Another fresh minnow and still in the same hole, I dropped it down again.
this time it took a while.......lift, drop and jiggle......lift, drop and jiggle!
And bang another hit just as I lifted it off bottom, this guy felt good.

Yup, I was right he WAS a good one, 2.8 lbs.......he DOESN'T get to go back down the hole!
The sun has set, it's getting cooler out and I don't care, I'm FISHING! :D
Another fresh minnow and still in the same hole, I drop it back down again using the same routine. It doesn't take long and yet another hit on the drop, feels like another little Walleye.

He was another little guy and doesn't compare to my keeper.......
http://gallery.menoutdoors.com/gallery/data/500/DSC08781.jpg
.....and gets sent right back down the hole as well.
I decide to call it a day, and not a bad one at that. First time on the ice, no one within 3/4 of a mile of me......one Pike and 4 Walleye in a little over two hours. LIFE IS GOOD!!!
If you're wondering what happened to my keeper, I cleaned him of course....
http://gallery.menoutdoors.com/gallery/data/500/DSC08785.jpg
....dusted him with some flour, a little salt, pepper and garlic powder and threw him in some butter in a frying pan.
http://gallery.menoutdoors.com/gallery/data/500/DSC08790.jpghttp://gallery.menoutdoors.com/gallery/data/500/DSC08793.jpg
Once he was done he hit the plate, and if you're wondering what I ate him with.........
http://gallery.menoutdoors.com/gallery/data/500/DSC08796.jpg
.....a BIG A$$ smile of course! :D
