View Full Version : Camcorder recomendations????
I've been diggin the videos a lot. Been contemplating getting a camcorder. Obviously I'm not Bill Gates with more money than God, so Price is definitely a factor.
Do all camcorders work well in the cold, or are some better than others, or do they all suck in the cold? Like for the ice fishing videos, in the shelter they shouldn't be too bad, but for out of the shelter vids do they have problems freezing up?
My Digi camera takes 1 minute movies, but never tried it out in the cold, plus the quality of the movie is just ehh soso. Lots of shake because it doesn't stabilize itself.

--Any miniDV cam with at least 20x optical zoom (digital zoom sucks)
--firewire cable(for easy dumping of vid onto PC)
-- a good night mode(that is not digital)...
--and takes SD cards for still pics (most vidcams don't take stills much more than 1 megapixel).
--battery life is relative, get 2 or 3 batteries...I have a 3 and 2 hr battery.(keep them warm when not using, as they will lose their charge)
You can get this for around 400 bucks no problem.

make sure it has a vcr record function, so you can use it with an underwater camera.

I bought a "Samsung Sports Cam" from Furure Shop. It comes with a Headcam. Notice in the Vid that you can see my hat and glasses in the lower left corner of the clip. I can drive and video the trip at the same time. Works awsome, but does not have the best quality, and spare batteries are a must. It's also not good in low light conditions, but take it for what it is and it's a pretty cool little camera. The camera itself is about the size of a deck of cards, the head cam weighs nothing and is rediculously easy to operate. If it's cold out, keep the camera inside your jacket and use the Headcam.

Try a Sony or Canon camcorder. They are some of the best and they have some reasonably priced models.

As a comarison to my previous post, here is a clip while not using a headcam. It's much harder to hold a camera steady in your hand than it is to just keep your head still.

In the interest of NOT hijacking Ed's thread, I will start a new one about Headcams.
