Scott, Rob and I decided to do some ice fishing 2/3/07. Most people thought we were insane for going out in zero temperatures and 25 mph winds, but we went and braved out the elements.

We started out in Bartlett Illinois at Deep Quarry Lake. We worked a point from deep (23 to 40 FOW) to shallow (8 to 17 FOW). We marked some fish, but couldn't get them to bite. I think Rob had a hit, but that was about it. The fish just came up, sniffed the bait, and said no thanks. Very disappointing. :(

Scott left and fished another pond. Me and Rob grabbed some luch at Spring Garden Cafe. If your in Bartlett and your hungry, go to this cafe on Army Trail road. Great Food. Anyway, Scott called us on his cell and said the fishing at the ponds by his house was slow, therefore me and Rob took off to a pond by me in Huntley.

As soon as we put the baits down the holes, we started getting fish. It's just a nice pond to hit for a mess of panfish and some bass. Here are some pics below.

Most of the fish we caught were released, but we did keep some to eat. The pics of the 15 panfish was taken after the fish sat out in the cold. They froze up like bricks in this fridged weather. Yes, we are crazy, but we love to fish. This is the most I have ice fished in a year, and I love it.

Until next time, good luck and good fishing,

Steve D

Yes it was really cold out for fishing, but I love fishing too much to just stay indoors. Steve and Rob, it was great being out on the ice with you guys. Maybe next time we will have better luck when we go out.

I was out today. EMU was rocking. Wind, Chill, and fishies on the vex. No real trophies or eaters though. Red fat boy and glass red cecil were working. Crappie hunting Tuesday. Heater repair Monday.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Our shack almost blew away too. Me and rob had to hold it down many times. The best way is to put snow around the sides of the shack. A little extra weight prevents the winds from coming up threw the bottom.

Yes we might be a little crazy as Nic points out. I think we may be able to ice fish up in Canada too. We have that Artic blood.

Darth,

Sorry we missed the event.

Hey Steve, there was no where near enough snow to hold the flaps down with the kind of winds that we were having that day.

You're right, there wasn't enough snow on Deep Quarry but there was on the SteveD pond!... and it worked to great effect.
