Choup and I were pm'n back n forth yesterday morning...we both agreed that chances were I'd be havin' my ass handed to me today...32 degrees 25 mph winds...sure felt like an imminent skunk...but...surprisingly...

2 dinks fell for the rattletrap...another 7 or 8 went for a sloooooooooooooowrolled spinnerbait...

Nothing big...but in this kinda weather, you take what you can get

I switched out the blade on this nichols spinner from the lil white willow to the silver colorado blade...the colorado facillitated the sloooow retrieve causing the bait to almost hover in place despite the lack of current.

Then....

Made it out this morning on the river with SeaRad and MrB (Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family MrB!:) )...we snagged the back of carp for a while before I found this guy tight to shore trying to stay warm and out of the current by some partially submerged rocks..

I got serious faith in you and Tee. You guys know how to hold your mouth right. Plus the last third of ya'lls DNA helix being bronze/black bass doesn't hurt either.;)

DW, you are amazing to be able to produce fish out of the Fox at this stage and this temperature. Thanks a million for the good tips and the motivating pics (and vids -- can you put together a "block rockin'-like" open water vid complete with hooksets?)

Absolutely henri...we're working on several technique/presentation specific videos right now:thumbs_up :thumbs_up

Just give us a lil time.....

DW, if you could include presentations, too, that would be most excellent -- the next best thing to being there.

The sooner, the better, of course.

BTW, after getting my trout limit in only an hour on Saturday, I had plenty of time to try the Fox in FRG. Was always a purist in directly tying to the lure, but one of your fall posts convinced me to use snaps (much faster than with Fireline/palomar knot on a windy day). Tried jigging on the bottom til my hook looked worse than yours (even with a Texas rig), tried a spoon, tried a rattling crankbait, and the only thing I got was attacked by a goose. Actually, it felt pretty good whacking that thing in the air with my landing net as it was coming at me....

At high stage and low temp like this, do you think it's location, location, location (getting to where fish are not presented lures very often), or is it really possible to produce smallies anywhere, any conditions? I've always waited until June to start river smallmouth fishing, but not because I WANTED to.

Thanks for replying.
