Starting Oct 1, Canadian residents can buy non-trophy mule deer tags in zones where tags are still remaining after the big game draw, and after 2 months of over the counter sale to SK residents...
Are you shooting does this fall?

link to SE, and where tags are available...

Hum, well I really hope I had my camera ready, but that is just me ! Let's all remember that an ethical hunter is just that ! THere are alot out there that ruin it for all, I truly don't think an anterless tag will be cause for alarm...

My 2 pennies !

As well, we have two anteless Mule and two anterless White Tail tags to fill between myself and the wife - Sausage tastes great !

I remember this time me and my father were hunting does in zone 2...it was our gettaway every year to go mulie hunting, some years bucks, but every year does...but this year we were out for skinheads...

We were walking a deep poplar coulee, and as usual I was in the bottom workin my but off, with pops up top on the flank. I heard bush crash...and to my delight, a huge (I mean gigantic) buck started to skip up the side hill, and stopped at 100 yards to look to see what arose him from his bed..I shouldered my rifle and shot.....with a thud I connected, but it was on his girlfriend that was right behind him. Those are the things you never forget..

Ethical hunting comes from within, and all we can do is hope that people observe the laws and follow them...

James, I know you, and many guys on here would never consider that, but thats not everyone. I would put money on it that if a 200incher jumped up in front of 10 guys with an anterless only tag, 8 of them are gonna shoot. I see it here ALL the time with residents hunting whitetails with a doe tag.

But your right its no cause for alarm ecause residents with anterless tags do it as much if not more.
I just think its SERMS first step to opening up Mule deer to Canadaian residents.

As a different approach to the "poaching" of an animal you do not have the proper tag for, we as ethical hunter should be turning in our buddies and help eliminate or prevent these people from hunting ever again..

I can not count on my fingers and toes how many peeps we have "KICKED OUT" from hunting on lands they are not permitted and now we are not just asking them to leave, we are recording the licence plate as a minimum and passing the information onto our Fish & Wildlife officers...

We all spend many hours in the field and "WE" do know who these people are who do not follow the rules - Arn't we the hunter not partially to blame for not turning these people in ?

It might be tough with people from out of province, but those of us who hunt these lands know where the "road warriers" travel as a standard, so why not start turning these people in when they cross the ethical line...

Personally I would not hesitate to turn in a guilty party, especially if I had it on video / picture ( which we all seem to carry )... Just something to think about.

Have you reported them? If not, why?

I intend on hunting mulies this year. I will chase bucks with the bow, but will also partake in the Antlerless season as well. If we, Sask. Residents, don't show an interest in controling the population, who else, or how else, can SERM do their job? We need to take the does.

I know a lot of people are upset with the CWD permits, but because I'm not a biologist and may not have the full story, have to assume that those in charge know what they're doing. ( I know, I'm a little naiive)

I've called TIPS twice, each time it resulted in convictions. I never hesitate. What happened to you Buck1979?

Many times... and sometimes it has gotten ugly.

Kudos, looking the other way would be taking the easy way out.

I am going to fill my doe tags here in Alberta for sure. 2 bow does and 2 late season muzzle. They are mulely or whitey tags. Not only is the meat great, but I am going to do my part so that it doesn't come to a cull situation. As far as I am concerned, I love my antlers and hunt like hell for a good one, but I am just as proud to take a nice doe on a good hunt. As far as the poaching thing, its just not non-residents, poachers are all over the place. I report them if I catch them.

timbo and I were out this morning looking for Mulies (either ***) and focused on does, even though 3 bucks jumped up and run within 60 yards of tim.....we still have our tags!
With either *** tags we WILL pursue Mr. BIG.....but we will also harvest our does when possible.
It is not WRONG to hunt for bucks (if you have tags for them), but they need to implement a shoot a doe to get a buck tag EVERYWHERE, to prevent this from happening in the years to come!!!
Most of the guys I know will do their part to help with the over population of deer by shooting more does this year (so there will be LOTS of sausage for icefishing season), which means we're not ALL bad.....so hats off to everyone that does their part this year.:thumbs_up :thumbs_up :D

My feeling is that not a lot of non-residents are going to want to come here to hunt mule deer bucks in the future if SE continues on the path with CWD slaughters like they are. Our trophy potential will become so poor that a 140 buck will be huge. Not many people want to travel to shoot a 140 mule deer buck. As far as shooting does goes, I purchased a new muzzleloader on the weekend and hope to use it on a couple of nice muley does ( not CWD tags of course).

I have my Zone 24 doe tags.

I think kids should get to hunt one doe for FREE with an adult supervisor of course.

No Sask muleys for me. I have a tag for a buck locally that may not get filled because of a hard winter... saving some for tomorrow.

Good luck guys, enjoy what you have now. It may not be there tomorrow.

As usual, I picked up 4 doe tags for my favourite zone. Last year I shot 0/4 and in 2005 I shot 2/4. If I get my mulie buck, I'll probably shoot 2 mulie does and a white tail buck. My family usually eats 3 deer a year but I won't be getting a many geese as usual so I'll take an extra deer.

I am an advocate for harvesting does and will be doing my part by hopefully filling the 3 I am toting.

I am against canadian residents being allowed access to any draw tags, though in recent years the number of left overs is rising and really can't blame SERM for looking for another option either. :zip:

Personally,, this apllies to all provinces,,in my opinion,, that if there is a waiting list for a draw on any game animal there shouldn't be an alotment for non-residents (Canadain or Alien). The provinces should look after their own first. I don't understand why SK residents have to wait so long for a Mule draw if there are to many deer. At least you don't have non-res coming in and it should stay that way, right across the board. I used to hunt Alberta for many years and it took me 3-4 years to get my tag, where a Yank could come every year. Mind you, he is paying handsomely for it and if I wanted to hunt every year I could buy one of the Outfitters tags but who wants to pay 3500 or $4000 for a tag when i live here and pay taxes. I'm not going to win any popularity contests with the Outfitters but thats my buck 49 worth. Any law that is passed will get abused by a few (hopefully I'm right on that) but I believe that most hunters are responsible. Thanks.
