Lindsay just started hunting this year after lots of convincing from me and tagging along on hunting trips. She shot recurve all summer in hopes of getting a big whitey with it, but it didn't quite work out. She only had 2 days to hunt rifle because of school, so came up Friday at noon and we hunted hard all afternoon and, although I had been seeing lots of bucks all week, we didn't get a glimpse of a single one, until this guy showed up at sunset. We walked into a clearing and he was working the edge with his nose on the ground. She wasted little time with a perfect shot through both shoulders at 150 yards. One shot and he was down, by the time we got to him he was dead. He would have grossed around 160 if not for a broken G4, but still a great buck. Check out the curve on those main beams!

It was her first day hunting with the rifle and first deer ever and a great hunt and clean quick kill.

Interestingly, we started to field dress him and heard a commotion in the bush, so she grabbed the rattle bag and began rattling and I gave a couple quick grunts on the tube and a big 5X5 came charging in to 10 feet away from us, then slowly circled us while we watched, then trotted off! Too bad it was after legel shooting or we both may have tagged out that day. I have my work cut out to top her buck, keeping my fingers crossed.

It's always interesting to me how those larger deer will come in after there's been a commotion. Last year I was field dressing a buck and a nice 5x5 snuck up to about 20 feet behind me without me seeing him! Wasn't til he snorted and whirled that I knew he was there.

Great deer for the little Mrs. Chad. The pictures you've got in your file, is that this years buck you got? It's a beauty too. Were yoiu hunting in the MacDowell area, or is that information classified? You kknow, that's not too far from Shellbrook!?
