Why do you like to fish? What's your favorite fish to chase?

I like to fish because I love being outside. I also like the unexpectedness of a fish biting your lure, it's a pretty big rush, but for the most part fishing for me is just getting away from the city and enjoying the outdoors. oh and they taste good :p

I fish because hunting season is closed.
It is hard for me to get motivated to go fishing but once I'm out there I don't know when to go home. There have been many a day that I fished till 10 or 11 pm. I don't know what it is about fishing that make me do that.It must be something about the water. In addition I love running boat home at night, moon shining in the sky the water is smooth as glass at night. It is even better in a canoe at that time of the night just hearing gentle splash of the paddle, loon calling, splash of a beaver tail as you paddle toward home. Call me nuts but that's me, beats concrete jungle.

GG, I would have to almost copy my hunting "reason" responce for this aswell.Anything in the outdoors is reason enough. As for my favourite fish, I love to catch them all, but channel cat, paddlefish and pike are at the top of my list.

Fishing has always been a full family event when it comes to the outdoors (that and cross country skiing and camping. My mother doesn't hunt, but she loves to fish. My wife gets excited at going fishing as well, as it is a creative way to get out of the house. For me an early morning out on a lake that looks like a sheet of glass, navigating it with a canoe and tossing a line is just as peaceful as hunting.

I'm a pretty poor fisherman, so the numbers and size of my catch don't really matter that much.
For me, fishing is a get-away from work, phones, tv, the city, and anything else that gets on my nerves. While my hunting is pretty intense, my fishing is low-key relaxation. I love to sit in my lawn chair and watch my fishing rod for any sign of a nibble on my pickeral rig while eating a pile of sunflower seeds, drinking Kokanee and burning as much SERM firewood in one day as humanly possible.
The end of the day usually culminates with a big T-bone steak or fresh-fried fillets and a visit with neighbouring campers to get an uodate on the NHL playoff games being broadcast on their radio. A good sleep in the Boler and we'll do it all again the next day.

I love the smell of the outdoors , and the feel of not knowing what is going to hit your lure. I love the sounds that nature makes and seeing all the creatures in there natural habitat. you get to see alot of neat things when you are out on the lake . Has far as favorite fish it would be hard to call , but topwater bass and topwater muskies give me the big trill ...:thumbs_up :)

I love to fish. I've probably starting fishing when I was 3yrs old. My dad would always take me with him.I think starting early fishing in my life is why it is a part of me. It's now a passion. All my problems are forgotten when I'm out there. It's something I'll continue doing as long as I possibly can.

Fishing is the ultimate sport. Not because it is better than another but it can be whatever you want it to be.
You can spend tons of money on boats, travel, equipment and fish all the time if you are able, or spend next to nothing and fish near home once in a while and have just as much fun.
Fish alone or with others, fish for fun or competition, keep or release.
Whatever fishing means to you, that how great it is.

It is purely an addiction my Dad introduced me to when I was young. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of new fishing spots, or relive past adventures!
I already have 5 trips planned this summer, but my dance card still has some openings!;)

Excellent thread you started, GG! Don't have time to go into it now, but my response will share elements of all the responses so far....
....it is good to have a place like MOD to share this common interest in the outdoors!

It is very relaxing, and a nice way to spend time with friends. Most of all spending time with my dad. He turned 80 last fall need to keep him busy.

BIG KUDOS to you Papa Bear for keeping your dad outdoors. I hope my kids do the same for me when I get older. They'll have to re pay me by taking my fish off the hook because I don't think Bifocals will be any use to me by then, and tracking the game I shoot, and loading it in the truck for me. Ha! What goes around, comes around. That is wonderful Papa bear.

The sights, the smells, just being out there and seeing my daughters smiles and reactions to new wonders. The thrill of the chase, the chance to learn or teach something new.
