The bro-in-law has been after me for sometime now to try trollin a bit more, but i have to admitt to pull me away from bangin the bank take some coaxing....he has done pretty well over the years doing this but i just dont have the patience when there are so many bass to be caught.....well last sat. he asked me what i was gonna do for the weekend, i told him that i was thinkin bout hitting up rockcut state park and enjoy the boat and the weather....but instead he talked me into going up a bit farther and hit a lake we have eye'd for sometime...turned out the big lake we thought it was, was only 6ft. at the deepest spot we found.....now i could tell you an hour long story bout all the things we talked bout with the locals and what not but my point of the story is we dedictated a whole day to trollin and planerboard'n...this is all new for me but let me tell you if you cant learn how to do this in five minutes your not palying attention...we fished from 6am till 2:30 when i gave in....we caught two fish and i only got a shot of mine, t caught a stripper first.....

I have no idea how a planer board works....can you explain?
Why Use Planer Boards?
Planer boards have become very popular over the years due to lake waters becoming very clear. Causing fish to scatter when trolling thus planer boards where born. Planer boards carry your lures out to the side of the boat, putting your lures in the strike zone away from the disturbance of your running boat. Some anglers prefer large boards towed on a mast, running multiple lines. Yet some anglers prefer single in-line boards. In-line boards are very convenient because they reduce the added cost associated with boards pulled from a mast. In-lines are also very easy to use.
Setting up a in-line planer board is very easy. First let out your fishing line at trolling speed. Second clip on your board. Third let your board out. Then set your rod in a rod holder.
Some angler like to have their board slide down the fishing line until it hits a stop when a fish strikes. This creates a problem if the stop fails and the fish is bumped off the line. Some like the board to completely come off the line to retrieve it later. This is a better option but lets say you have 4 boards running. You have to go back and get the other board and this may require reeling in your entire set up. All our boards are designed to stay on the line until you take it off. We find this method to be the easiest of the three options. The reason is simple. No chance of bumping off the fish and you can fight the fish freely after you remove the board in the boat.
Knowing when a fish is on. This has become an ongoing problem with planer boards. Some anglers say you can tell you have a fish on by the action of the board. Or you can set the clicker on your reel. The problem is that water conditions are constantly changing and sometimes make it very hard to tell if a fish is on.
The strike indicator is born for conventional boards. A solution? A great idea however pressure is constant on conventional strike indicators. So how do you tell if a fish is on? With under water currents and constantly changing boat speed due to waves and wind, throw in trolling in a zigzag pattern to cover more water. You can see how this can be an issue.
Take all this and add the cover of darkness when most predatory fish feed. This is why we invented the lightening board. The strike indicator only goes off when the line has been released from the rear release. Eliminating the guess work. With our patented strike indicator you can always tell if you have a fish on or if your line is fouled by debris. The flashing strike indicator is very simple in design it has only one moving part. The strike indicator has no springs totally independent from the releases giving you the freedom to troll without fear of missing a strike eliminating wasted trolling time.
Night trolling is one of the most productive times to fish especially with planer boards. Now we have glow sticks, little flashing lights and the use of spot lights. Glow sticks are great but limited. Number one is cost about $1.00 a stick and you still can't tell what your board is doing unless it is 10 feet away. Second the little lights are irritating to your eyes and even if used as a strike indicator you still can't tell what your board is doing and you can't tell if you get a strike because you need a point of reference to get a bearing. Look at it this way. If a little light is flashing on your board from lets say 50 feet away and is moving a few inches back and forth when you get a strike. Can you tell if it is moving? Now add some small waves. Good luck.. Third a spot light? Need we say more? Our solution is to illuminate the whole board with the flashing strike indicator as a whole other system. Both work together to provide the best trolling system ever built. Using this system is as simple as turning on a switch.
