You mean just put a smelt on a hook and put a bobber on it two or three feet up? and do you fish off the point or actually in the arm?

When you drive past the golf course and get down to end of the road turn left by the old train trussels. I was past their in my boat a week ago and the trail going south that takes you right out to the trussells was under water. Best luck is usually by the trusells or to the left of them. You can watch your bobber go right and then the current changes direction to the left and goes just about anywhere.
I like those balsam floats with the slip-bobber better than the plastic clip on ones. We usually leave our spool open so the pike takes out line, just like a tip up and don't set the hook till he has a chance to ingest it a bit. My buddy caught a 22 pounder there about 3 or 4 years ago doing it that way.

I have the best luck with the five of diamonds. In the summer i find spinner baits work the best for fishing around the weeds from shore because i can actually make a cast without just catching weeds

Best lure by far will and always be a jig. No kidding, all you have to do is find is find the right color that they are biting, find the right weight of jig ( this all depends on the depth of water you are fishing. If you are trolling shallow use a lighter jig, if you are trolling deep use a heavier jig. If you are drifting and jigging use the right weight jig according to the depth the fish are at. The last but not least thing I recommend is finding the right color according to the type of color water you are fishing. If all else fails you use a bright shorter lipped crankbait, if casting into shallow water. Do not use a medium diver crankbait but a small lipped crankbait it will be sure to lure them out of the weedbeds. I find on sunny days they will be in bays waiting and lurking for you to entice them.. good luck...
